There are currently 4 types of electric vehicle that you can drive and they are as follows;
Pure electric vehicles rely on only one fuel source to run and this is the battery which varies in size and capacity, but these vehicles have zero emissions. They are mostly suitable for short urban journeys with newer models having an increased range. Home or workplace charging is therefore an absolute must.
Examples include: Audi E-Tron, Kia Niro, DS3, Jaguar i-Pace, Nissan Leaf, Peugeot E208 and Tesla Model3
Extended Range EV
These vehicles only use one fuel source to run which is electric from batteries, however, the difference is that the battery has a higher charge capacity which increases the range of the vehicle making them more suitable for longer urban and out of town driving.
Examples include: BMW i3 with Range Extender, Tesla Model 3 Longe Range
Plug in Hybrid
These vehicles have an internal combustion engine and an electric motor powered by batteries that need to be recharged by plugging in at home or a workplace. Due to the battery they can run in electric only mode as well as Hybrid or Petrol/Diesel only modes. Certain models are able to automatically adapt to run in different modes to fit the road conditions. To obtain the best fuel efficiency they are best regularly charged and used on high frequency short journeys within or around town as the pure electric mode will have a range of between 10 and 50 miles dependant on the model.
Examples include: Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Volvo XC40 PHEV, XC60 PHEV, Skoda Superb PHEV,Mercedes C300e, Mercedes E300e, BMW 330e and BMW 530e
Hybrid vehicles use both an internal combustion engine and electric motors to run, while braking ensures that the battery is recharged regeneratively using the brakes. These are the less fuel efficient and have the highest emissions however they are much more beneficial to the environment than conventional internal combustion vehicles. They are best used for mixed driving profiles and in stop start traffic.
Examples include: Toyota Prius, Hyundai Kona, Lexus UX, IS and RX, Ford Mondeo and Ford Puma
We will carry out a full suitability consultation at enquiry stage to make sure that the vehicles we find are the most suitable to meet your companies and drivers requirements to make sure that the vehicle meets its purpose throughout the contract period.
